Troops Equated to Porn Shop Owners
While ideas out of left field (no pun intended) are nothing new for the city of Berkeley this one may take the cake. Radio station KPFA, a far left Pacifica radio station, presented a proponent of restricting military recruiting in the city. Instead of outright banning it they have decided to take a back door route to achieving the same thing. The spokesperson for the measure, whose name I unfortunately did not get, wants to change zoning laws to restrict where the military may recruit. The proponent compared military recruiting stations to porn shop owners who she said also are restricted by zoning regulations. Aside from the outright looney and despicable nature of the idea is the dishonesty of this approach. Obviously the whole point is to change the zoning laws to allow the city to keep the military from recruiting while hiding behind the zoning framework. While very unlikely, if Berkeley is ever the subject of a terrorist attack I would hope the proponents of this measure would call their local porn shop owners to protect them rather than the troops they equate them with.
